As of writing, Zambia does not have a single dedicated regulator solely overseeing retail forex or CFD trading, in the way the FCA does in the United Kingdom or the FSCA does in South Africa. Most Zambians who trade forex online do so through brokers that are licensed and regulated in other jurisdictions, not through a locally licensed forex broker.
Bank of Zambia (BoZ)
The Bank of Zambia is the country's central bank. It supervises licensed banks and authorised foreign exchange dealers operating within Zambia and sets the broader framework for currency and exchange control matters in the country. It does not license or supervise offshore retail forex/CFD brokers.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Zambia
The Securities and Exchange Commission regulates Zambia's capital markets, including licensed securities dealers and exchanges such as the Lusaka Securities Exchange. Retail over-the-counter (OTC) forex and CFD trading offered by international brokers generally falls outside this licensing regime, since those brokers are typically incorporated and licensed abroad.
Why the Broker's Own Regulation Still Matters
Because there is no dedicated local forex regulator, the protection you actually have comes from wherever your chosen broker is licensed — for example the FSCA (South Africa), CySEC (Cyprus), the FCA (United Kingdom) or ASIC (Australia). These regulators typically require brokers to keep client funds in segregated accounts and may offer options for dispute resolution. Always check a broker's regulatory status directly on the regulator's official website before depositing funds, and prefer brokers with recognised, verifiable licences — see our broker reviews for a starting point.
